2018: Balancing Baladi

Renee is an experienced oriental dance artist with a passion for exploring the emotion, story and culture behind Middle Eastern melodies and dance. Her dedication has seen her study under local and international artists to constantly challenge herself to evolve and develop as a performer and teacher.

With a grounding in both oriental and folkloric Middle Eastern dance styles, Renee is an accomplished performer who has appeared on stage at various national community festivals such National Folk Festival 2011 & 2016), National Multicultural Festival (2013 - 2018), Floriade (2014 - 2018) and Jazida Production's Arabian Nights bellydance showcase (2017 & 2018). Her performance style is engaging and whimsical with a specialty for baladi and dancing with balancing props and veils.

Renee is a proud member of the Raks Zahirah dance troupe, Canberra’s professional belly dance troupe founded by owner of Bedazzled Bellydance, Jacqui Princi. Renee debuted on the national stage with Raks Zahirah for the 2015 Wollongong Bellydance Festival. Wanting to explore new ways of sharing her love of bellydance, Renee became the newest teacher at Bedazzled Bellydance in 2016 after an intensive 12 months training. Renee brings a sense of community, fun and creativity to her classes, pushing the boundaries to create new and exciting ways to learn and refine technique in a relaxed and inclusive environment. Her enthusiasm, passion and welcoming personality teamed with a keen eye for technique are welcome attributes to the team.

Renee’s own tuition began under the instruction of Jacqui and Angelina of Bahirah Bellydance where she first fell in love with the art form. Experimenting with styles and genre’s Renee has also learnt American Tribal Style (ATS) under the instruction of Fiona McPherson, and attended workshops in Azeri Dance with Kirsty and Fusion with Xaeda Raqasa of Brisbane. Renee continues to study at the advanced level under Jacqui and Kirsty of Bedazzled Bellydance and travels to attend workshops with national and international artists such as Canadian bellydance legend Tamalyn Dallal, Ukranian beauty Marta Korzun and Australia's own Caroline of Cairo. Renee continues to seek opportunities to further her own learning and development in both Middle Eastern dance and culture and maintains passionate about sharing her knowledge with audiences and students.
